In-season training events
Mystic Marauders
From approximately Mid April – end of September, we meet on TBD week day mornings at 5:45am at the Ace Wheelworks in Porter Square, Somerville, and bike out to Upper Mystic Lake*. Check the Bike map for our 13 mile loop and the Swim map with approximate distance of 0.7 miles. There are multiple distance options for swimming, biking and running in this fantastic training location. Each year we hold a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Sprint Triathlon – no t-shirt, no timers, no entry fee – in early October.
Walden Swim/Bike Bricks
Keep your eyes on our listserv for impromptu Saturday training events. A number of teammates make weekly swim/bike brick trips to Walden Pond from Somerville. Look for an email from a ride leader connected to the listserve during the week.
Single discipline recurring rides & runs
Throughout the season, most of us train with one or more additional cycling and running clubs. Popular group rides include Thursday evenings 6pm – 7:30pm at Hanscom Field (recurring weekly ride from March – September) associated with the Charles River Wheelmen. Typical rides are 20 – 40 miles in length and broken into A, B and C pace groups. CRW also hosts tempo paceline ride Saturday mornings leaving from Nahanton park with various groups typically doing 40 miles and up.
Many Wheelworks members also participate in a weekly running clubs with Somerville Road Runners (www.srr.org) on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights and with Niketown running on Newbury St at 6pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the spring, summer and fall.
